BEHIND THE GAME. Tanya: "To create the game for kid you should think like kid, be like kid&quot

Meet Tanya - a talented artist from Belarus who created funny and entertaining game for kids - Magic Circus Festival. We asked her a few questions about her experience in creating this lovely game about amusement park. So, what are you waiting for? Hop in the imaginary Ferris Wheel cabin and get ready to read a short story about this great Tiny Lab Kids artist.

Hello, Tanya. Please shortly introduce yourself.

Hi, I’m Tanya, I’m 25 years old and I live in Pennsylvania, US. Originally, I’m from Belarus and I’m graduated from linguistic University, but after my graduation I realized that I want to make games. So here I am, working as concept artist.

And what gives you inspiration?

It really depends on what project you’re currently working on. You always need to pass through diversity of references related to the subject to create something new. I think that our entire world is a big library of references, we just need to observe and descry it.

Good point! And what about playing games? Do you like them? What is your favorite game?

Yes, of course I like playing games! I also consider it as part of my job because every game, every character, every subject in it brings you the result of artist’s work. It is really inspiring. I love big and maybe escapist projects like The Witcher, for example.

You have a great taste for games! Now, can you introduce us the game you were working on?

I created graphics for the Magic Circus Festival game. This game is a bright, colorful and funny world full of cheerful characters and attractions.

What did you like the most when working on Magic Circus Festival game?

Tiny Lab’s developers gave me the creative freedom, so it was pleasure to work on it. I also like the atmosphere of this game. As it’s about holiday, I always was in festive mood while working.

That's great! And what about challenges? Did you have any?

You know, actually, the graphics itself. I’ve never did something like this before. This childish style is something unusual for me. And I always was like “to create the game for children you should think like children, be like children” and that was funny and challenging at the same time.

How long did it take for you to draw graphics for this game?

Well, it depends on how much time you can spend on it, how many projects do you have… In my case, roughly, 1 – 1,5 months.

Well, that's quite fast! Could you share some tips for people who are planning to work on similar game projects?

First of all define the subject then think what is interesting and remarkable in it. Imagine that you’re a kid. What would you like to see here? What could make you interested in it? Characters, animals, bright colors… I made a list of it that was really helpful! And always use references!

Thanks for your advice! What do you like most about Tiny Lab Kids games?

I like that there are a lot of games. They are all similar and they are all different at the same moment: this is the diversity kids like! All graphics are cute and lovely, so nothing to be worried.

Thank you, Tanya, for your answers!
